Prepare for interview

Prepare for a Job Interview

To prepare for interview is like running a race. Some people approach it as a sprinter; on your mark, get set, GO!... and the race is over before they knew what happened.  As you get ready, think of the tortoise in his race against the hare.  Slow and steady, being careful to pick up on the details along the way.

Hopefully, in the end you came across the finish line first. As with any great effort, no matter if you are the sprinter or the marathon racer, preparation is key. To be sure you're on task, utilize a checklist to keep yourself organized.

Preparation before the interview is essential
Research and preparation will give you confidence on the day of your interview.

Types of Interviews

You may be notified that you'll be meeting a panel of people or have a phone interview. Although much of the interview process is similar, there's a big difference between sitting across the table answering questions and answering questions over the phone.

Researching the Organization

Prior to any job interview, check out the place you'll be working, drop in and talk to a few people there. Become familiar enough to answer basic questions during the interview about the potential employer.  When you're able to talk about the place you'll be working, you'll establish trust with the people that you meet. The web is a great place to start your information search, but there's nothing like a visit, if you can.

Interview Questions (Lots of them and answers too!)

Many candidates approach interviews without considering what they'll be asked.  Having been on both sides of the interview table, I can say, it shows when a candidate is 'blind-sided' by a question. There's no need to be caught flat-footed and without some idea about what you'll be asked and how to answer.

What to Wear to an Interview

Great first impressions are vital during the interview process.  A candidate can sabotage their efforts by dressing inappropriately.  Follow some simple guidelines to help make a positive first impression.
